Archives - Newspapers - Requests by Mail

Staff cannot conduct newspaper searches requested by telephone. All requests must be made in writing and contain the necessary search fees. Research provided by the staff of the State Archives includes marriage and birth announcements and obituaries.

• Submit the precise date and specific location of the event. Items can be searched only if the month, day, year and location of the event is provided.
• Include the search fee; overpayment can result in a delay due to the processing of refunds. Patrons may indicate that the remainder should be applied toward a donation to the agency.
• Request up to three items per letter.
• Readability of reader-printer copies will depend on the quality of the microfilm rolls.
• Request interlibrary loan of the newspaper microfilm if more than three items are needed or if the dates and locations cannot be accurately determined.
• A list of local researchers is available upon request for extended searches.
