Abstract: Contains the annual reports of a number of motor carrier firms from across the state to provide a mechanism for the Public Service Commission (PSC) to monitor and regulate the motor carrier industry in North Dakota.
Provenance: The North Dakota State Archives acquired this record series through a number of transfers from the Public Service Commission. This record series was processed and the inventory prepared by Lotte Bailey, Kari Rombs Kohlhoff, Grace Wanttaja, and Bonnie C. Sheldon, December 1987-January 1988.

SCOPE AND CONTENT
Annual Reports of Motor Carriers date from 1937-1986 and measure twenty-eight feet. The function of this record series is to provide a mechanism for the Public Service Commission (PSC) to monitor and regulate the motor carrier industry in North Dakota. This record series contains the annual reports of a number of motor carrier firms from across the state. The Annual Reports of Motor Carriers record statistics and narrative data on carrier history; location of principal offices; certificate or permit number; organization and control of carrier; assets; liabilities; operating revenues and expenses; maintenance expenses; equipment owned and disposed of at year's end; property owned; depreciation; insurance; licenses; taxes; freight traffic; passenger traffic; mileage; changes during the year in intercity regular routes over which the carrier operated; temporary cash investments; notes receivable; accounts receivable; capital stock; bonds; damage and compensation claims; and intercity revenue service. In addition to annual reports, some of the files contain correspondence, audit reports, and PSC documents, e.g. notices, findings of fact, conclusions and orders, and cancellation of certificate orders. Some of the Annual Reports of Motor Carriers submitted to the PSC were prepared on Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) annual report forms; some of the Annual Reports to the PSC include copies of the annual reports submitted to the ICC. This record series is arranged chronologically and alphabetically by company name within each year.
