Historical Sketch

The Dakota Pharmaceutical Association was established August 3, 1885 in Fargo, ND by pharmacists concerned about the quality of pharmacy practice in the northern parts of the Dakota Territory. Their goal was to improve the profession by advancing standards for pharmacists to meet. Today membership includes all pharmacists licensed to practice in North Dakota through a legislated agreement with the State Board of Pharmacy. The association has under gone the following name changes Dakota Pharmaceutical Association (1885), North Dakota Pharmaceutical Association (1889) and North Dakota Pharmacists Association (2004).
The Governor appoints members to the State Pharmacy Board based on the recommendation of the Association and Pharmacy Board members must be licensed pharmacists and members of the Association.
