Public Notice of Reduced Services in Museum Division:
Due to current and future construction work at the ND Heritage Center, access to museum work spaces and artifact storage areas will be extremely limited.
If you wish to donate three dimensional artifacts to the State Historical Society of North Dakota (SHSND) Museum, please note that the SHSND's Museum Division will be unable to accept donated objects from May 1, 2011 until after January 2012 when construction is complete in the museum work areas. However, If you need an answer prior to 2012, send us information about your artifact(s) via the SHSND Museum questionnaire (at history.nd.gov/donate.html or contact our office for a questionnaire). The museum collections committee will then make a decision whether to accept the objects or to decline. If accepted, you will need to keep the objects until which time we notify you in 2012. If you cannot wait to donate your object(s) until 2012, please consider donating them to your local historical society or museum. Thank you for your cooperation.
Please note that paper items and photographs can still be offered to the SHSND State Archives Division.
Objects offered to the State Historical Societys museum collections will be considered by the Museum Collections Committee (meets twice per month). Please complete this form in as much detail as possible so the committee will have adequate information to make an informed decision about your offer. Note that many accepted objects are used for reasons other than exhibit purposes, including (but not limited to) research, educational programs, publications, and loans to other museums.
