Jerome King, a soldier in Gen. Alfred Sully’s command, sketched this map of the construction of this new outpost in Dakota. He depicts three steamboats with supplies, Sam Gaddy (New Gaty), Fannie, and Isabella; the encampment of the 30th Wisconsin; Major Galpin’s sutler store; Gen. Sully’s command; commissary depot; and an Indian encampment.
