Exhibits Update - Treehouse

Treehouse

It will be a museum space designed especially for children. The Treehouse will introduce pre-school through third-grade visitors to the museum world. Scaled in size just for them, the entertaining hands-on activities will also relate to exhibits in other areas of the State Museum.

Located on the mezzanine above the Missouri River Events Center, this glass-enclosed exhibit will invite children to discover and explore North Dakota life, past and present. The Treehouse will open in 2015.

The Treehouse will feature its namesake, a child-sized tree house children can climb into for a bird’s-eye view of the area before sliding down to a variety of exhibits:

  • Treehouse Lookout —Climb up through the tree trunk for a bird’s eye view among the leaves. Slide down into a museum adventure!
  • Main Street
  • Grain Elevator –Turn the crank to watch the “grain” journey throughout the elevator.
  • Grocery Store —Shop for everything to make soup or work the cash register.
  • Bank —Pass money back and forth as an old-fashioned teller or use the ATM. Spin the wheel to learn fun facts about savings.
  • Fire Station —Step into a firefighter’s boots and sit in the driver’s seat of the fire engine.
  • Horses —Hop on to realistic horses and gallop away to prairie adventures.
  • Steamboat —Step aboard and imagine floating down the Missouri River.
  • Locomotive —Be the train engineer and ride the rails.
  • Flight Simulator —“Pilot” your aircraft across North Dakota skies.
