Abstract: Consists of photographs and postcards of the battleship U.S.S. North Dakota, other ships, a portrait of the crew of the U.S.S. North Dakota and Deming's shellback certificate. Items 00001-00004 were scanned and disposed of due to condition issues.

Provenance: The collection was donated to the State Historical Society of North Dakota by Dennis P. Cyr via the South Dakota State Historical Society in July 2017.

Property rights: The State Historical Society of North Dakota owns the property rights to the collection.

Biographical Sketch:

Alfred Hastel Deming was born in Berlin (Conn.) on December 28, 1901. In 1920, he married Irene Waters. Together they had one son, Alfred Hastel Deming, who was born October 28, 1923 in Cromwell (Conn.). Alfred Sr. died June 27, 1978 in Cromwell. Irene Waters was born in about 1901 in Connecticut. She passed away on April 11, 1982 in Meriden (Conn.).
